I was honored to be this year’s recipient of the People’s Choice Award for the Paint the Town plein air event at the Marblehead Festival of Arts! Thanks from the bottom of my heart to everyone who voted for my painting, Marblehead Harbor Panorama.
Paint the Town is my favorite annual event of the Marblehead Festival of Arts! For a day, I can forget everything else, set up my easel somewhere in Marblehead and paint my heart out. This year, rain was threatening, so I brought my gear to Devereux Beach and stood under the roofed picnic area. Last year, I painted the beach and all the colorful umbrellas and people having fun, so I decided to turn the other way this year and paint the harbor.
The clouds were hanging low, ready to open up; but the water was reflecting a lovely light green color. Since thunderstorms were predicted, most of the boats were bobbing serenely in the harbor, the calm before the storm. I had brought a long 12″ x 36″ canvas, so I was able to capture the whole scene, from Abbot Hall on the left (none of the construction there was showing above the tree line!) to the lighthouse on the right.
