PEM Inspirational Exhibition 8/31 to 9/29/2019

The (lucky!) 13th annual Peabody Essex Museum Inspirational Exhibition will be on display at the Salem Arts Association Gallery from August 31 through September 29, 2019. The opening reception for this show will be held on Friday evening, September 6 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

This exhibit by local artists was inspired by the Peabody Essex Museum collections of art and the exhibition of “A Passion for American Art: Selection from the Carolyn and Peter Lynch Collection. It is a juried show, and all pieces in it were selected by Lan Morgan, who is an Assistant Curator for Exhibitions and Research at the Peabody Essex Museum. A scholar of American decorative art and painting, she holds a Masters degree from the Winterthur Program for American Material Culture. Lan recently served on the curatorial team for “A Passion for American Art: Selections from the Carolyn and Peter Lynch Collection” and she is currently working on PEM’s new gallery of Asian Export Art opening in September 2019. Before joining PEM in 2018, Lan held positions with the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, several New England historical societies, and at Sotheby’s, New York.

My entry into this exhibition is my plein air painting, Marblehead Harbor Panorama, acrylic, 12″ x 36″. It was painted on location for the Paint the Town exhibit for the 2019 Marblehead Festival of Arts. It was a gloomy day with interesting light on the water. Lots of boats were moored because a big storm threatened all day. I stood under the pavilion at Devereux Beach in case the sky opened, and was lucky to finish just before the skies opened It was a big thrill that my painting was voted the People’s Choice Award!

Salem Arts Gallery is located in “The Bridge at 211”, 211 Bridge Stree, Salem MA. The gallery entrance is located on Ash Street.
