The Galleries at Lynn Arts (GALA) will present the show, Higher Purpose from August 1 through August 24, 2019. Local artists will interpret the theme in many different mediums and styles. The opening reception will be held on Friday, August 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. It will feature something for everyone: food, music, a caricature artist, card readings, spoken word works, and more.
My entry for Higher Purpose is called Collaboration and is made of cut paper, 13″ x 16″. The artwork was inspired by my wish that our leaders would collaborate to solve the world’s problems. I used two complimentary colors, bright red and green, which when used side by side visually vibrate. Instead of simply having the colors compete, I cut them into thin strips which visually mix to form a third, more neutral color. This represents people working together rather than only competing.
