Once again, I have been invited to paint a wooden codfish to benefit the Marblehead Festival of Arts. A group of regional artists were asked to use any medium to decorate the large decorative fish. The Cods will be on display throughout downtown Marblehead in various Atlantic Avenue, Pleasant Street and Washington Street. All proceeds from the Festival of Cods will go directly to support future Marblehead Festival of Arts programs and scholarships.

In the past, I have painted my Cods with scenes of Marblehead; but this year, I decided to try something a little different. Entitled, Codfish: Key of Sea, my entry is painted with layers of metallic paints and glazes in shades of gold and copper. Then I tacked on the scales with upholstery tacks. The scales are a collection of old and new keys in many shapes and sizes.

The Cod are available for purchase in an on-line auction at www.marbleheadfestival.org.

The House of the Seven Gables and the Salem Arts Association are partnering in a Plein Air Painting event. Artists from the SAA will be painting in the beautiful grounds of the H7G for two weeks at the end of May, culminating in a reception at The House of the Seven Gables Gallery on May 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  It is always interesting to see how a group of artists can spend time together in the same place and see so many different things to paint!

After the Gables show ends, the paintings will be transported back to the Salem Arts Association Gallery at The Bridge @ 211, 211 Bridge Street, Salem, MA. This historic red brick building across from the Salem Train Depot housed the Unitarian Universalist Church for many years, and is now an arts center.  The H7G paintings will be on display until June 24. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays noon until 6:00 p.m.

Gallery 62 announces their Grand Opening for the 2018 season on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The gallery will be open every Saturday and Sunday through September 2.

The gallery exhibits the work of a group of local artists, offering each artist a dedicated area to set up a changing array of their artwork. Gallery 62 is a great place to find unique hand made creations for gifts or to treat yourself. Artwork includes paintings, prints, photography, textiles, ceramics, jewelry, and much more. The gallery is an artist co-op, which means that some of the artists themselves will be on hand to describe their methods, and to help you find just what you want.

The photo shows my gallery space. For the opening, I am exhibiting some of my floral and garden themed original art, as well as matted prints of a wide array of my paintings, and note cards. Over the course of the gallery season, I shall change my art to other themes. If you contact me, I can let you know which days I will be manning the gallery.

Swampscott Art Association is presenting a member show at Reach Arts Center from May 4 until May 21, 2018. A wide variety of art will be on display, and available for sale. The opening reception will be held Friday evening, May 4, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

My entry in this show is an Op Art style acrylic painting in black on white illustration board, 16″ x 20″ matted and framed. Yes, I did get a bit dizzy painting this one, but it was also quite meditative.

“Why have there been no great women artists?” This question was posed to the world by Linda Nochlin over 50 years ago and that question needs to be revived. “What does women’s art look like today?” LynnArts is holding this exhibition in honor of International Women’s Day and Linda Nochlin, whose death in 2017 was a major loss in the art world and, most specifically, the discipline of art history. This exhibition is for women artists to display the variety of art that is created by women.

The opening reception will be held Friday, March 23, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and is free and open to the public. The exhibit ends Saturday, April 21. ArcWorks invited artists from the metropolitan Boston area, northeast of Boston and
southern New Hampshire to submit art works for exhibition in the un-themed exhibit, “New Horizons: Spring Ahead”.

My artwork being exhibited was inspired by the ‘Spring Ahead’ in the show’s title: Tree Peonies, watercolor, 18″ x 24″ in an ornate antique frame; “Finally!”, acrylic, 12″ x 36″, framed; “Rainbow Garden”, cut paper, 11″ x 14″, matted and framed. (Shown: Rainbow Garden)

The show will run from the reception on Sunday, March 11 to Friday, April 27. Rebecca Plummer-Rohloff, PhD, professor of Art Education at Salem State University is the juror for the exhibit.

The members of the Swampscott Art Association exhibit their art work at the Abbot Public Library in Marblehead for the month of February. Works in all different mediums, subjects and styles were shown.

I entered two of my paintings done en plein air during the warmer weather. One is titled September Light (8″ x 10″, acrylic, framed) and was done sitting on the rocks near Crocker Park on a gorgeous September day, warm but with a little nip of autumn. It shows the blue, blue water with Marblehead Lighthouse in the distance.

The other was done on a foggy morning at Devereaux Beach looking over the harbor toward Marblehead Harbor. It is called Misty Morning (12″ x 24″, acrylic, gallery wrap canvas) and shows the harbor covered in fog. It was an eventful painting session. As I worked, two seagulls dove in and flew off with my lunch. I chased them onto the beach and got it back — it would have been too bad to have to leave my nice painting spot to get another lunch when I got hungry! As always when painting on location, I had to paint fast .By the time I finished, the fog was almost gone revealing a sunny summer day — a completely different scene. The gallery wrap allowed me to continue the scene onto the sides of the canvas.

The 29th annual Salem Maritime Festival — August 4-6, 2017
Hosted by Salem Maritime National Historic Site in cooperation with the Essex National Heritage Commission and Eastern National, the 29th annual Festival features live music, historical reenactors, harbor cruises, demonstrations, interactive programs, arts, crafts, and more!

I was invited to give a demonstration of painting a figurehead for the Lady of Salem project with the Salem Beautification Committee all day on Saturday, August 5.

The Peabody Institute Library of Danvers has selected my painting, Danvers Art Association, to be part of their permanent collection and on display at the library. The acrylic painting is of the historic Williams School, an antique two-room school house which was renovated by and houses the Danvers Art Association and its Gallery 62.

All of the submissions can be viewed at the Danvers Places Show will be held June 17 and 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 105 Elliot St., Rte. 62, Danvers. Lots of free parking is available.

Gallery 62 at the DAA is also open with lots of one-of-a-kind paintings, prints, cards, ceramics, jewelry, textiles, gifts, etc. Many of my paintings, prints and cards are available at the gallery.
