Alienation/Acceptance

Salem Arts Association invited their artist community to explore feelings of belonging and exclusion, consider their place in and around our community and what community means to us all, and to express forms of acceptance or alienation in ways that truly embody their voices.

My cut paper artwork juried into the exhibit is titled Collaboration. It illustrates that idea using the complimentary colors red and green which visually vibrate when placed beside each other, but quiet down in the places I combined them in thin stripes. That represents the idea that when we get to know each other and work closely together, our differences dissipate. The piece is 21″ x 16″ matted and framed.

Amyjo Savannah

Southern born singer/songwriter Amyjo Savannah has a signature, soulful timber & deep, powerful resonance to her wide-ranging vocals. Singing in styles reminiscent of Odetta, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Mavis Staples, Tom Waits & Robbie Basho. Her writing is equally dynamic & heartfelt. A combination that showcases her illustrative storyteller delivery.

She has played at Sundance Film Festival three years running performing at The Star Bar & The Gibson Lounge. As well as performing at the High Times Doobie Awards at SXSW, and The Showbox in Seattle. Patti learned the art of Nantucket Basket weaving and has been dedicated to the craft
Over the years, I have worked on different techniques for creating baskets as well as different shapes and styles for over nineteen years. She wants the owners of her baskets to use her pieces rather than keeping them on a shelf, they are made to be used.
Patti has won first place ribbons, peoples’ choice awards, and best of show
awards for her baskets.
