Spring Show!

Check out the artwork in the Danvers Art Association Spring Member Show. This show has more entries than we have had since before Covid. We’re back!

The exhibit will run from the opening reception on Friday, May 16; Saturday, May 16; and Sunday, May 17. It will also be open to the public on the following weekend Saturday and Sunday, May 24 & 25.

My painting in the exhibit is titled Glen Magna Trio. It was done en plein air on the exquisite Glen Magna Estate in Danvers, Massachusetts. What a memorable experience! I painted it in water color on an absolutely perfect spring day, and decided to capture the beauty of the day and dancing sunshine by painting as quickly as possible. Three different scenes are framed and matted together: on top is a painting of the wisteria arbor; in the middle is a scene of the lovely little teahouse; on the bottom is a painting of the roses growing in a walled garden.

I love to paint en plein air because of the immediacy of the technique. Since the sun is shifting the shadows and colors, I need to paint quickly. I can feel the warmth of the sun and the soft breeze, and smell the sweet aromas of the flowers. This technique forces me to paint my impression of the scene as the tree boughs, clouds and flowers move. It always gives me a painting that feels alive.

When you visit this exhibit, you will see art photography, oil paintings, charcoals and pastel drawings, acrylic paintings, mixed media, ceramics and much more. I hope you will have a chance to join us.
