Garden/Art Walk

ReachArts of Swampscott is once again running their Garden/Art Walk this weekend, Sat. June 29, 11-3:00, rain date June 30. There are many gardens for you to stroll through all throughout the town. Visit reacharts.org to find out all the details: including maps of the 3 segments of the Walk, activities, van routes, raffles, and sponsors. There is also some information about some of the artists and gardeners taking part in the event.

The Garden/Art Walk is large, and is divided into 3 segments. I shall have my easel set up to paint en plein air in the garden of the Swampscott Art Association President in the 1:00-3:00pm Beach Rose segment of the tour on Puritan Lane. Members of the Swampscott Art Association will have their paintings and matted prints on display. My contribution to the exhibit is King’s Beach Seawall, acrylic on stretched canvas, 12″ x 24″. I was inspired to create this painting after being dazzled by the magnificent light reflecting off the ocean by the seawall one day when I was taking a brisk walk along the shore in Swampscott. The contrasting shadows, splashing waves, and particularly dramatic clouds made me pull out my camera and take photographs to capture the scene so I could paint it later at home.

Member Spring Exhibit 3/18-4/11/14

It’s that time again when artwork blooms in galleries all around the North Shore! On Monday, March 18 from noon until 2:00 p.m. the Swampscott Art Association will start their season with an exhibit of members’ creations. The show will be on display at the Swampscott Senior Center, 200R Essex Street, Swampscott. It is in the back of Swampscott High School and there is plenty of free parking.

Members were encouraged to bring their best work, so there will be a diverse array of all different styles, mediums, subjects and sizes for you to enjoy. The event is free and open to the public, refreshments will be served and live music will be offered as well.

My painting in the show is titled King’s Beach Seawall. It is a realistic depiction of the iconic view along the Swampscott/ Lynn King’s Beach. It was inspired by a photograph I took while walking there last March. The dramatic sky, light reflecting on the water, and hard shadows on the wall caught my eye. The painting is done in acrylic paint on gallery wrapped canvas, 10″ x 20″, and framed in black.

I hope to see you there!

Swampscott Fall Show

The Swampscott Art Association is proud to present the Fall Member Show. The members of the association have been invited to share their best work, any subject, any medium. The show will be a treat.

My painting in the exhibit is titled King’s Beach Lights. It is done in acrylic on a 16″ x 20″ gallery wrapped canvas. The painting was inspired one very dark night when I was driving past King’s Beach in Swampscott. No moon or stars were visible, but the inky black water was illuminated by the lights of streetlights and passing automobiles. Each wave was delicately edged with reflections. and the low hanging clouds were glowing with reflected light. I stopped my car and took pictures trying to catch the parade of lapping waves.

There will be an artists’ reception on Sunday, September 10 at 2:00 p.m. which is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served and the public will have a chance to meet and talk with many of the artists displaying their work. The exhibit will hang until October 26 at the Swampscott Senior Center located behind the high school at 200 Essex Street, Swampscott, MA.

Swampscott Art Assoc. Member Show

The members of the Swampscott Art Assoc. will exhibit their creations at an eclectic art show at the Swampscott Senior Center, 200R Essex St., Swampscott, MA (behind the High School). The show will be up through November 2018.

My entry is a delicate watercolor of a charming little fishing shack I came upon driving through Essex, MA. I was particularly drawn in by the three colorful little boats docked beside it. The painting is titled Safe Harbor, 16″ x 20″ matted and framed.
