Summer Members Show

Summer Member Show

June 22 – August 4

The Marblehead Arts Association features the work of its Artist Members for the height of the summer season. With multiple galleries of MAA juried artist members, there is something for everyone. This show will be up during the Marblehead Festival of Arts on July 4th weekend, so stop by the beautiful MAA Hooper Mansion galleries at 8 Hooper Street, Marblehead if you are in Town for the festival.

Lovely works of art in every style and medium are on display. My painting in the exhibit is King’s Beach Lights, acrylic paint on stretched canvas, 16″x20″. One very dark night while driving along the Lynn/Swampscott shore, I was inspired by the lights shimmering on the gently rippling waves. I pulled over, took a photo, and went home to paint it.

To have a private online sneak peek of the exhibit, go to maacurrent-exhibits.square.site where my painting is displayed on page five. marbleheadarts.org

In addition to the art show galleries, Marblehead Arts Association also has a wonderful Artisan Shop full of original hand-made creations by the members: paintings, prints, note cards, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, and more. A perfect one-stop shopping spot!

Summer Members Show 6/24-8/6/23

The Marblehead Arts Association features the work of its Artist Members for the height of the summer season, and during the popular Marblehead Festival of Arts. With multiple galleries of MAA juried artist members, there is something for everyone.

My entry in the show is titled Starship Tripping. This happy little painting is an 11″ x 14″ acrylic that is “just for the fun of it”. Whimsical little green people are gathering on a little planet, all bright colors contrasting against the black outer space sky. This painting was the inspiration for the room sized outer space mural I did at the North Shore Children’s Museum.

The show will run from June 24 until August 6, 2023 at Marblehead Art Association’s lovely gallery on 8 Hooper Street, Marblehead, MA.

Opening Reception: Sunday, June 25 • 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Variations — Feb. 8 to March 8, 2020

Here’s what the MAA has to say about their new exhibit!

“Variations…. it’s what keeps outlooks fresh and interesting.

For close to a century the Marblehead Arts Association has exhibited the works of artists from throughout New England in the six galleries of its historic 1728 mansion home. All works have been judged and prizes in Fine Arts, Photography and craft categories will be awarded at the opening receptionThere will be ballots available for visitors to cast votes for their favorite piece with a People’s Choice Award to be announced at the close of the exhibit.

We were excited to have received a record number of entries this year with hundreds of submissions from artists throughout New England!”

I was thrilled to have my mixed media artwork, Seabreeze, chosen to be part of the Variations exhibit. Seabreeze incorporates my watercolor painting of Ten Pound Island in Gloucester, seen through the paper sculpture window of a seaside house. The paper sculpture is all done in white paper and was inspired by all the white houses I saw on a visit I made to the Greek Island of Mykonos with my daughter. We wondered what the blue Mediterranean would look like through the windows of those white homes. Seabreeze is framed in a shadow box, 14″ x 14″.

The Variations exhibit will be open to view from February 8 through March 8, 2020. The opening reception was held Sunday, Feb. 9, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at MAA’s Hooper Mansion, 8 Hooper St., Marblehead. Hours are Tuesdays through Fridays and Sundays, noon to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Closed Mondays.

Marblehead Art Assoc. Winter Exhibit

The Marblehead Arts Association Winter Members’ Exhibit will be on display from the opening reception on November 10 through December 23, 2018. The show is hung at the MAA’s Hooper Mansion, 8 Hooper St., Marblehead, MA.

My acrylic painting, House of the Seven Gables Front Door, is my entry in this show. It was painted outside in the gardens of the H7G on an absolutely gorgeous May morning. The shadows were very pronounced at that time of day, and I was inspired by the series of strong diagonal shadows falling across the front of the house, caused by the sun hitting the slanted gables.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday & Sunday, noon-5 pm and Saturday, 10-5 pm. Closed Monday. Tel: (781) 631-2608.
